Former Gulf Mobile & Ohio Depot/Station,
Sparta, IL |
| Date |

February 18, 1995 |
| Description |
: |
This former depot has quite a history.
It has been restored and now houses
the Roscoe Misselhorn Museum. Misslehorn,
a native of the town, is a well known
artist for his art of the Midwest.
Another claim to fame is that the depot
served as the station used in the film
IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT. In other
words, Sparta, Illinois became Sparta,
Mississippi for the film. The tracks
shown in front of the depot belong to
the Canadian National/Illinois Central. |
